TRACES recently had the pleasure of visiting lectures at Hong Kong Baptist University, where our team was invited to introduce the TRACES initiative and engage with students from several courses, including Transdisciplinary Knowledge Application and Transfer, Transdisciplinary Problem Solving, and the Honours Project programme.

During the session, we had the opportunity to observe students presenting their own transdisciplinary research projects. The discussions highlighted how students are already tackling complex questions by combining insights from multiple disciplines — a mission that closely aligns with the spirit of TRACES.

Our team introduced the TRACES Conference, sharing how student research can develop beyond the classroom into conference presentations and publications. It was inspiring to see the clear connections between the work of HKBU students and the transdisciplinary platform that TRACES seeks to cultivate.

We were also joined by Mr. Alexander May, a presenter from New Zealand at last year’s TRACES conference, who kindly shared his experience with the students. As he reflected:
“It was an interesting opportunity to exchange ideas with people from many different fields.”

The session sparked many thoughtful conversations about research, collaboration, and how students can transform their projects into work ready for wider academic exchange.
TRACES is sincerely grateful to the Dr. Caixia Chu for the invitation and the opportunity to engage with such thoughtful and innovative student work. We look forward to seeing many of these ideas continue to grow — and perhaps appear at a future TRACES conference.
